Our heads were filled with things that didn't matter

"Hey, is it okay if I bring my son in here?"

It was earlier in the night than when the Five excludes minors, so the waitress let them in. They seated themselves at the bar, the father, the child, and the friend.

"Hey partner, would you like a Shirley Temple?"

I remember being a child that age taken to the bar. While I can't pin it to any specific ills in my adult life, I desperately hated the father for bringing his son to the Five.

"Hey buddy, the trailblazers scored!"

I drank and kept my own council.
