This man says I have needed to mend my unholy life

Sometimes I just have to laugh, because five or ten years ago I couldn't have imagined my life as it is now.

That's probably okay. A mentor of mine once explained "life is what happens when you were expecting something else."

As a much younger man, I read about a lesser-known M*A*S*H spinoff based on Radar set in the current day of the early-eighties. The major plot points being that Korean war veteran Walter O'Reilly was no longer on the farm, and was a divorced police detective living in St. Louis. My cynic's heart couldn't forgive that; it seemed like the shameless profiteering of television executives trying to cash in on Gary Burghoff's star power.

It hasn't seemed nearly so cynical for most of the last decade, growing ever more appealing to me on a logarithmic scale. These are the right-angle turns life makes. They are stranger than fiction. These are the surprises that keep life from getting dull.
