As I walked into the foyer, I heard a voice from the smoking area outside that I knew I recognized. Stooping to look out the window, I saw the groom of the the previous weekend's wedding, a man I've known for nearly my entire life. I stepped back out and offered my greetings to him, his new bride, and the couple that I'd seen at the wedding and reception. We had a drink together before the newlyweds headed off to a party in the area and the other couple went off to their dinner reservations.
I'd be lying if I said I wasn't glad to see them; suddenly the world of people came back into sharp focus. Everybody knows someone, and after a day in the vacuum it was more than welcome.
I wished the happy couple my best; they're in for a rough year being separated by work intermittently.
